Rumor Next-Gen IPhone SIM Tray Leak

A little while ago we let you guys know about a supposed leaked home button for the next iPhone. Well, we’ve got another “leak.” This time the part in question is the SIM card tray. SW-Box.com, an online re-seller, listed what they are calling ”iPhone 5 Sim Card Tray Holder Slot.”

The SIM card tray, while very similar to the one that appears on the iPhone 4 and 4S, does have some subtle differences that sets it apart. According to MacRumors, the tray has “a slight tapering of metal frame pieces and an extra metal shelf not seen in current trays.” This basically means one of two things – either this is a genuine leaked part, or it’s a total fake.

Operating under the assumption that it’s real, it does raise a few interesting questions. Obviously it’s different than pervious SIM trays, but not by much. Could this mean that Apple is only slightly updating the design of the next iPhone? Maybe the company isn’t changing the design of the device at all and simply had to change the shape of the tray to fit components for a larger screen.

The top of the tray – the part that sits outside the phone – is flat like it is on the 4 and 4S. This is significant as well because if, as many rumors suggest, the next iPhone has a curved body, the SIM card tray should also be curved. So this could mean that Apple is sticking with the flat, box-like design.

Of course, we won’t know anything for certain until Apple lets us catch a glimpse at their next iPhone design. I would, however, expect these sorts of leaks to grow more and more frequent until then.

As we approach summer and, if no iPhone is released then, autumn, there will be tons and tons of leaks and rumors pulling us in every direction. The trick now is to determine which ones to believe and which ones to ignore. Do you think this leak is genuine?
