How to: Take a screenshot on an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch

We realize that many of you may already know how to do this, however, we’re here to serve all the newbies and experienced iOS users alike. Taking a screenshot on iPhone is really simple. Unlike some of its competitors’ phones, you do not need to download an app. The function is already built in to iOS and has been since day 1.

All you have to do is press the home key and the lock/power key at the same time. If your sound is on, you should hear the usual camera shutter noise, and your screen will flash white for a split second. Check your camera roll or Photo Stream and you’ll see your screenshot automatically saved. And that’s it. The same applies on iPad and iPod Touch. Pretty nifty huh?

If you have any other “how to:” questions, don’t hesitate to comment below or tweet me: @TiP_Cam.

actually you can do it even its not in the same time, but you MUST press the power button(hold) before you press the home button.

Thanks for this — I’ve had a 3gs for a couple of years, and had no problems taking screenshots.  But now with siri, pushing the home button even a tiny bit before the power button summons her rather than taking a screenshot.

Why can’t it be a hidden. Feature? This is a feature that everyone knows.

This is a “How to:” post not a “TiPs and Tricks”, it’s specifically for people who are new to iPhone and wouldn’t know they could do it. Not everyone knows.

@TopGuy09 Thanks for tip. However, screenshots seem to be glitchy with iPod Touch 4G. I’m now on my THIRD of that model, and every one of them has had screen shot plus other problems, no matter which order anything is pressed. Unbelievable problems. Getting dumped out almost every time on a screen shot attempt! I’ve previously owned iPod Touches 2G and 3G without these problems. Time-wasting, frustrating!

Hi- when I try to do this on my iPhone 4S, it never takes a screenshot & always goes to the “slide to power off” even though I’m holding the menu & power buttons at the same time … any suggestions on ways around this? Thanks!
