Monday Moan: Releasing an 8GB iPhone 5c is not the answer

This week’s Monday Moan is all about Apple’s decision to build and release an 8GB version of the iPhone 5c. It’s Apple’s way of trying to make the 5c more popular, but, the best solution would have been just making the current models cheaper. 8GB is nowhere near enough storage, and the problem wasn’t just the price, it’s the perception of cheapness that plastic gives, regardless of its build quality. Although the 8GB version of the 5c will be cheaper, it doesn’t help bring the range down. It says “The current models are priced correctly, here’s one with no storage that’ll cost less” and ignores the issue that they’re too expensive for people’s mindset of what a small plastic phone should cost.

I think you’re spot on with this, Cam.
At least put a microSD slot on the thing!

As for the artwork… I’m guessing something either automotive or something from space.

    Good stuff!

Something from space is a good guess… not 100%, but close. ;-)

Something from the ocean? Good topic on the storage.

This is like the worse business decision Apple keeps making. There is no space on a 8gb phone. I remember buying my son a 8gb iPod. Bad investment. He couldn’t download any apps or updates.

Reduce the cost of the iPhone 5c and keep it in production. Making an iPhone 6c is not going to benefit the iPhone 6.

I have to agree with you Cam. Is this Apple’s way of getting us to put everything on the iCloud and an unlimited data plan? It seems like Apple can just build the slower processor, iPhone 4’s to sell cheaply (well and 5’s when they’re surpassed by the newer and faster iPhone6’s). Sell the older technology cheaper. I have to go along with roopull about letting us put our own memory cards into the future iPhones.
