After dealing with very short supply of the iPhone 5s at launch, it is refreshing to hear that reports are pointing towards the iPad Air having plenty of supply come the November 1st launch date. Due to the supply being so good, a report is beginning to float around the internet from multiple sources stating that Personal Pickup will be available on launch day for the iPad Air. Personal Pickup means that a customer can go online at 12:01am PST on November 1st and reserve an iPad Air for pickup in stores – hence the obvious “Personal Pickup” name.
The new iPad Air sports the same 9,7″ Retina display that we have all come to know and love, but in a thinner, lighter, more powerful package. With the new A7 chip and M7 coprocessor, Apple has brought 64-bit architecture to the iPad lineup (the Retina iPad mini will get it as well), and the benchmarks and real world tests for this chip have been fantastic. The battery got smaller in size, but due to the power efficient A7 the same 10 hours of battery life that iPads enjoy today are what is expected.
Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac also said there is talk that the Retina-equipped iPad mini may be seeing a preorder come November 1st, but those plans are very much so up in the air and could change at any minute. The iPad mini 2nd generation finally got the Retina display everyone has been asking for since the 1st generation was released last year (and especially since iOS 7 was released), as well as the A7 chip, M7 coprocessor, and same 5MP iSight camera as the iPad Air. Both will be available in space grey and silver, but no gold option as many expected.
What do you think? Will you be picking up an iPad Air? Or will you be waiting on the Retina iPad mini? Or neither? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
