Well, it appears as if Apple’s upcoming new iPad event has finally been given a date. According to multiple reports this evening, the Cupertino firm will be holding an event centered around the announcement of new iPads on Tuesday, October 22nd.
The rumor is that the event will be focused on the brand new fifth generation iPad (iPad 5?) the second generation iPad mini (please make a Retina display!) as well as possibly the new Mac Pro that was briefly shown off during Apple’s WWDC. It is also likely that the company will launch OS X Mavericks during this event along with the other new Mac gear like the Mac Pro.
The new full sized tablet from Apple is expected to have an all new design, taking its design cues from its smaller sibling, the iPad mini. This means we’re expecting a much thinner and lighter device, as well as much thinner bezels on the sides of the tablet. In addition, we are likely to see an improved camera as well as a faster and more efficient processor. When it comes to the iPad mini, I’m still hoping for a Retina display, although I won’t be holding my breath. More recent rumors are pointing towards a Retina display, but we’ve also seen numerous rumors that say a Retina iPad mini won’t be coming until 2014. Both devices are also said to be coming in Apple’s updated color scheme of White/Silver, Black/Space Gray, and possibly even the rare White/Gold combo.
In addition to the report from AllThingsD claiming that this is the event date, The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple has chimed in, simply adding that “yep” the event will occur on the 22nd of October. He has been pretty reliable when it comes to Apple news recently, so it is looking pretty certain that this will be the date the refreshed iPad line will be shown off to Apple fans everywhere.
