Last week we reported that lone hacker winocm had developed an untethered jailbreak for iOS devices running iOS 6.1.3 and 6.1.4. The jailbreak seemed incredibly buggy and pretty far from being released to the public. The developer did not give a public release date or even an estimate timeframe which left everyone wondering when, or even if, the jailbreak would be made public.
However, winocm has confirmed via Twitter that the jailbreak is almost ready:
The status of the jailbreak is pretty much: it needs work but its almost there. (For a very small subset of devices.)

iOS 7 has been incredibly popular since its launch. It’s now running on over half of all iOS devices out there, but for those who haven’t updated and are hoping for a jailbreak for the previously ‘un-jailbreakable’ iOS 6.1.4, you may not have to wait so long after all.
In the tweet above, winocm does include the caveat “For a very small subset of devices”. It’s currently unclear which devices he is referring to and which devices will be supported but it does seem that an iOS 6.1.4 untethered jailbreak is edging ever closer.
If you’re a jailbreaker who has held off on updating to iOS 7 this will be great news as a jailbreak for your devices might be right around the corner. If you’ve already taken the plunge and updated to iOS 7, I guess you’ll have to wait a little longer before someone develops a jailbreak for the new software, something that might still be a way off.
Below is the video of winocm showing off the jailbreak running on an iPhone 5 previously:
Let us know what you think. Are you excited to see an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.4 or are you already rocking iOS 7?
