WhatsApp, possibly the most popular (heaven knows why) cross-platform messaging service in existence has just had its iOS app updated with some very important new features. The update should make the app even more user friendly, and save users from the frustration of losing chats if they lose their phone or delete app data by mistake.

From the App Store description:

What’s New in Version 2.10.1

– multi-send UI: can send multiple photos at the same time
– URL schema support for 3rd party apps (see our blog for more info)
– iCloud chat history backup and restore:
WhatsApp > Settings > Chat Settings > Chat Backup

If you already have the app, you can update now. If you don’t, and you want a new messaging platform with a hideously designed app, you can download it for free.

Make sure you have a file manager. iPhone Data Recovery will be useful for renaming the backup files. Here are some choices: File Managers and Explorers If you do not want to lose your current history (newest messages), create a manual backup by going to: WhatsApp > [Menu Button] > Settings > Chat Preferences > Backup conversations. This manual backup file will be saved as “msgstore.db.crypt” in your /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder. Save this file as “msgstore.db.crypt.current” so you do not get it confused with other backup files during the restoration process.
