According to a rumor from the hard-to-believe DigiTimes, Apple has chosen another company to be a producer of its smaller tablet. According to the rumor, the iPad mini could see some production time at Wistron come 2014 or 2015, and would join Foxconn and Pegatron as the only producers of Apple’s iPad mini. However, Wistron has the ability to manufacturer more than just the iPad mini, so later Macs, iPads, iPhones and possibly iPods could be coming out of here as well. Also included in the rumor is that Apple has found two new battery makers from the area, but those names were not mentioned. After becoming CEO, Tim Cook and Apple have “continued to adjust its supply chain through selecting new component makers and OEMs” says the report. As usual, coming from DigiTimes, this needs to have its own healthy bit of salt thrown on top.
What do you think? Why would Apple be looking for more suppliers? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
