iOS 7 will let us speak words we don’t know how to spell

Another cool new iOS 7 feature was discovered by the guys over at AppAdvice. Everyone knows how frustrating it is to type out a note or iMessage, only to have your iPhone throw that angry red line under a misspelled word. But, if iOS 7 has anything to do about, that won’t be a problem much longer.

First uncovered in the second beta of iOS 7, tapping on a word that your iPhone doesn’t recognize now brings up the option to speak the word to the phone so that it can spell it correctly for you! This is a great idea, and a much quicker way to find out how to spell a word than going into Safari to Google it. One thing to note: the feature doesn’t seem to be on every iOS 7-equipped device just yet. Betas being what they are, I wouldn’t look too much into that, though. I’m sure we’ll all get this feature before long!

What do you think of this idea? Siri has been known to spit out some pretty atrocious spelling in its own right, but do you think you might utilize this feature if you’re really stuck on a word? Let me know in the comments section below or on twitter @TiP_Jake.

Correct me if i am wrong, but the speak feature has been around since ios6 and siri came out. All it does is speak the word highlighted. I have used this to read articles on the web and such. It is not an option to dictate the word to your phone. Dictation is already a button.

@ChanceDaniel Definitely two features already in iOS6 and Siri that I use. The dictation button is the microphone on the keyboard, and the speak option in iOS6 has Siri speak the highlighted word. Maybe they combined the two or something?
