As we’ve reported before, Apple is clearly no stranger to the courtroom. The company has spent more than its fair share in the courts over the past few years arguing against patents, and against other companies. Recently, however, companies have started to take on Apple through lawsuits, and today the list of companies suing Apple grew by one.
Mobile Telecommunications Technologies, a company which (predictably) is a company that provides messaging and communication technology, is claiming that Apple has violated seven patents through its messaging systems. Apple’s technologies in the suit include iMessage, Airport Express, Airport Extreme, and Time Capsule, as well as devices used to communicate such as iPhones, iPods and iPads. Mobile Telecommunications Technologies is filing this messaging lawsuit, because the company claims that Apple’s devices should not use these services, as it claims Apple’s services violate the company’s patents.
If Apple loses the battle, the courts are essentially saying that iDevices should not be allowed to use services such as iMessage, or even text messaging. What do you think about this? Do you think this is a ludicrous lawsuit attempting to take advantage of Apple’s legal vulnerability, or do you think Mobile Telecommunications Technologies should be fighting to defend its services?
