Problems for Apple in China are escalating, today is has emerged that Apple is being sued by a state-owned film studio.
Shanghai Animation Film Studio has produced animated movies such as “The Monkey King”, and is accusing Apple of infringing on intellectual property rights while providing unauthorised download services in its App Store. It claims that Apple has been selling its animated movies on iTunes without permission.
A senior official at the company has confirmed that the lawsuit has been filed and since accepted by the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court, and is to be heard in the next few weeks.
The lawsuit is worth around $531,000, and marks the culmination of an entire week of attacks on Apple by the Chinese government, predominantly through the use of state-owned media. It’s highly possible that this new lawsuit is again being orchestrated by the government in an attempt to weaken Apple’s position in China.
Apple has overshadowed many of China’s domestic companies such as Huawei and Lenovo thanks to its tremendous success in the country.
