Rumor: Samsung soon to be out, Innolux to be in for iPad mini displays

InnoLux_logoA new rumor is floating around that says Apple is looking to a company named Innolux to make the next iPad mini’s displays. The current major supplier, as many of you know by now, is Samsung. You know, that South Korean company Apple has been in miscellaneous court battles with for the past few years at least? Yes, that one. According to the report out of the Taipei Times, Innolux “will receive certificates for product qualification [from Apple] to supply [touch panels] for the iPad mini.”

Currently making screens for the full size iPad already, Innolux knows what Apple is looking for, and with tension between Apple and Samsung only growing stronger by the day, it is no surprise that Apple would go to a company it has done business with before. Apple only seems to be distancing itself more and more from the company that it has relied on for many of its products’ parts. Samsung has a lot to lose from this, as Apple has continually been one of its biggest customers.

What do you think? Interested in what will become of this? Wonder if Samsung will try to get business back? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.

It’s obvious Apple needs to cut its ties as much as possible with Samsung. You can’t go feeding a company that will happily make similar competitive products as your own and even have the gaul to trash talk you in advertising for good measure. Say what you will about Apple, but they were happily treating Samsung as a good business partner, all this is on Samsung who were not happy with the huge profits Apple was providing as their biggest customer, instead they used that relationship against them. With friends like that, who needs enemies!
