An iOS app by the name of Summly, which has been gaining a lot of followers since its release, has just been acquired by Yahoo. AllThingsD has estimated the amount of the purchase to be $30 million. What Summly does, for those of you that don’t know, is take articles and information and summarize them into around 400 character summaries. You choose your interests when first setting up the application and it would then aggregate news from sources you were most likely to find interest in. It uses an algorithm to make it sound “more human” and “less robotic” than other automatic summarizers. If you are interested, you can read more on the Yahoo blog: Yahoo. The app has been pulled from the App Store for now, and may not be back.
What do you think? Did you have Summly before? A fan of the application? Let us know in the comments, or tweet me @TiP_Kyle.
