In an apparent attempt to grow business in the emerging Chinese technology market, Apple is now going through the process to have the design of the iPad trademarked in China. In the patent application, Apple included images of the front and back of the device in both color and black and white.
This move comes as the cellular versions of the fourth generation iPad and iPad mini went on sale earlier today in China.
According to CNET, the move to acquire the iPad design patent comes about a year after Apple was in the middle of a patent dispute with Chinese based Proview over the name iPad and the way in which Apple achieved the patent in the UK in 2009. That dispute was later settled for $60 million.
