Tim Cook calls Apple television set project an “intense area of interest”, the industry is “20 to 30 years” behind

Not a day goes by when we’re not being told that “an Apple TV set is just around the corner”, but nobody really pays too much attention to this speculation. However, Apple CEO Tim Cook has now said himself that the industry is an “intense are of interest” for the company.

Cook stated this in a preview of his NBC interview that is set to air at 10 PM (EST) tonight. He has also suggested – in a Bloomberg profile – a next-gen Apple TV, and bringing some of the production of Macs to the US.

However, the big news is of course the Apple television business, that is no longer a “hobby” for Apple. Whether this means we can expect an “iTV” in the next year or the next ten years, we don’t know, but Apple is certainly considering the idea.

Tim Cook:

“When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years,” Cook told Williams. “It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”
