Apple’s ‘tactical data center’, a small part of its Oregon site

Wired has recently flown over Apple’s Oregon date center and photographed the site from above. You may remember that a few months ago, Apple’s huge North Carolina data center was also photographed, shortly after its minor expansion. Now, the Oregon center is currently under construction, with the building of the first of two 338,000 square-foot buildings now underway.

The ‘tactical data center’ at the site has already been completed, but it will make up only a small part of the center:

“Apple finished this building earlier this year, but just south of it, you can see what will be the site of its much larger 338,000-square-foot data center. Apple wants to eventually build two of these monster data centers on the 160-acre site, but right now, there’s no sign of the second facility.”

Apple is making this center – as well as another in Nevada – as fast as possible to accommodate the vast amounts of data in its digital stores, and the increasing demand for more iCloud storage.

Check out the huge site below.

The entire data center, located in Prineville, Oregon
