Since Scott Forstall was given the boot by Apple, losing his position as chief of iOS, many have wondered, “was this a good decision?” Well, according to former Apple senior engineer Michael Lopp, no. Lopp actually posted on his blog that Forstall “was the best approximation of Steve Jobs that Apple had left.”
As I’m sure many of you already know, Forstall wasn’t the most co-operative person over in Cupertino, his less-than perfect relationship with Jonathan Ive, the legendary Apple designer and Forstall’s successor, is one of Forstall’s most notable, but many of Apple’s innovators called Forstall an “asshole”, and probably some other, non-publishable words.
However, although he wasn’t the most popular resident at Apple HQ, Lopp believes that he would have been the only real successor to Jobs.
Lopp wasn’t the only one to sing praise of Forstall, either. As it happens, Andy Miller – who was another Apple executive – told an interviewer that “Forstall was such a talented guy, to me he was Mr. Apple. He knew the company inside and out.”.
Just how much Apple will change following Forstall’s exit is so far unknown, but for us consumers, don’t expect too much to happen.
