@iCloud.com email address reservations being sent out by Apple

Apple is reportedly in the process of sending out emails to existing @me.com (or @mac.com) users notifying them of a change in domain name. Since MobileMe no longer exists (having been replaced by iCloud) Apple is transitioning from @me.com to @icloud.com. If you already have an @me.com account, fear not, you can still use it. But, if you sign up for a new account now, you’ll only get the option to choose an @icloud.com account. The news was first reported by iMore, and confirmed by our very own David Beren.

The email reads:

All new iCloud Mail accounts now come with an @icloud.com email address. As an existing user, we’d like to offer you this new address as well. We have reserved [redacted] for you, and you can now use this address with your iOS devices and computers by following these simple instructions.

If you prefer, you can continue to use your current email address just as you always have.

No matter which address you use, you’ll continue to receive all your mail, whether it’s sent to your @me.com, @mac.com, or @icloud.com address

Have any of you received this email? Does the change bother you in any way? Let us know in the comments or tweet me: @TiP_Cam
