Video out not supported over new Lightning connector?

With every new iPhone comes news that seems to be negative. This seems no different for the iPhone 5. Shortly ago, we wrote about how Wideband audio will not be supported in the US, and now we are hearing that the Lightning connector will not support video out. That would mean the only way to mirror your iPhone 5′s screen onto say, a TV, would be using AirPlay. iMore said it well:

With the switch to the new 8-pin Lightning connector on the iPhone 5, new iPod Nano, and new iPod Touch, some notable benefits were achieved, including a full digital pipe, a fully-reversible design, and a much smaller footprint. But some things might have been lost, like video out.

It seems that Apple is going all in on the “no wires” philosophy. Now cutting the cord on wired mirroring. I wish they hadn’t, as I have the adaptor for HDMI. I will just have to limit that to my iPad though.

What do you think? Are you sad they won’t support it any longer? Does this make you a little upset? Let us know in the comments.

Im seriously unhappy - I spent £800 on a Pioneer iPhone compatible head unit only to find that its not compatible with the new iPhone - I feel like I've been ROBBED by Pioneer and Apple on this one.....

No Pioneer lightning cable as yet, which means the stereo that cost me a months wages is useless - I bought it due to the iPhone compatibility.

@ScottClegg buy the 30pin to lightning cable adapter and get the old iPhone pioneer cable. Put the adapter on the cable and u can atleast play music and calls through it.

I searched all over to try and find an answer to this... this is what I found in macworld. "As with the 30-pin connector, the Lightning connector supports video output; Apple told Macworld that Lightning-to-HDMI and Lightning-to-VGA cables will be available “in the coming months.”" found from: http://www.macworld.com/article/1168555/what_apples_new_lightning_connector_means_for_you.html also from : http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/iphone-5-lightning-connector-does-support-video-output-hdmi-and-vga-cables-incoming So the real question is, how soon will pioneer be able to research and engineer a cable that goes from the lightning port to our radios? Also, I wonder, if I were to take the lightning cable that came with the iphone, plug it into the usb port that the iphone cable plugs into, then take a male-male headphone cable and plug it into the other female cable attached, would THAT work? Just wondering... I doubt it, but what if... I also found a little more info at AVIC411.com, the info website for pioneer AVIC radios found here: http://avic411.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-50-iphone-5-what-we-know-so-far/ "From what we currently understand, the iPhone 5, with the 30 pin adapter and the current cable from pioneer: Will support audio iPod output. Will support audio out apps (like Pandora) Might support controls (thumb up, thumb down, next, etc) Will NOT support video iPod, video app, or Enhanced App Radio functions."

As stated prior, this is my nav/video source on my pioneer headunit. Without video out its a nogo. Will be returning after preorder arrives.

I actually use the Video and iPod output for about 80-90% of what I use the iPhone for!!!!! I have a Pioneer Avic-Z130bt in my car which I can stream movies or music videos, or iPod and Pandora directly with the controls on my radio screen. This is a huge dealbreaker for me and if they don't fix it It'll be the one thing that'll make me go to android. I'll return the iphone5 first for the 4S though, just because I have so many apple apps at this point, and also because pioneer hasn't released an update to make it work for android yet. but if another upgrade comes up and they're still pushing wireless BS i'm out. I shouldn't have pre-ordered this stupid thing...

I am not happy, as I use my iPhone as my car GPS, displaying on my LCD stereo screen.

I think video out is possible and we just need to wait for the proper cables to be announced.  When Apple demoed the new iPhone 5 they had it hooked up to a cable that displayed the phones image on the big screen.  If they were using Air Play then why the cord?

GSTurn they could have been charging it, or making sure it was connected for something else.
