iOS 6 will become available to the public on September 19, but the gold master (GM) is available for developers to download right now. A GM is basically the bridge between the beta releases of iOS and the final, public one. It’s a near-finished product that registered developers get to download a week or so before everyone else. This is useful to check compatibility or do any last minute tweaks on apps.

But, you know, Apple-approved applications aren’t the only ones that need to be checked on iOS 6 before they’re released. Jailbreak applications also need to be updated to work on Apple’s latest mobile operating system, which is why it’s great news that the GM of iOS 6 has officially been jailbroken!

RedSn0w, a popular jailbreak tool, has a new beta out tailored for the iOS 6 gold master. According to the jailbreak Dev Team,

“Update #3 – Sep 13:  The “dev4” version covers all the betas and yesterday’s 6.0 GM seed.  There are some remaining issues with Cydia and fundamental modules like PreferenceLoader, so it remains an openssh-styledeveloper-only release only for now!”

Now, keep in mind, this is a developer’s jailbreak. It’s tethered, and Cydia isn’t even included. Hacking the GM of iOS 6 is really only good if you’re trying to make sure your jailbreak app or tweak is ready for the public when iOS 6 launched on the 19th. That being said, the jailbreak crew is hard at work on finding and utilizing exploits in the software that could be used for a public jailbreak as soon as possible, so just be patient.
