iPhone 5 case shows up in AT&T inventory system

Last year, before Apple launched the iPhone 4S, Case-Mate leaked images of some new accessories. These supposed “iPhone 5″ cases virtually solidified in everyone’s mind what we were to expect from the 5th gen iPhone. Sadly, we were wrong to do so. Let’s hope the company’s not leading us (and AT&T) on a wild goose chase again.

A source from an AT&T retail store just grabbed an image showing the information above. The retail inventory system apparently shows that the company has a Case-Mate accessory on its system. Although there’s none of the product in store yet, it has been entered in to the company’s warehouse database. As more information arises we will hear more. But, you can be certain of one thing: stores are preparing for the next iPhone’s launch.

Isnt the 2012 iphone the sixth generation - and not the fifth as your article states?  If that is the case, I dont see why they would call it the iphone 5 - wouldnt that add more confusion.  They dont number Macs and with the ipad, they just decided to do the 'new ipad.'  The Macs actually are named by the dates released like Early 2011, Late 2012 etc.  They could just call it the NEW IPHONE (2012 version)

Unfortunately, the next iPhone to come out will be the 6th generation and not the 5th.

FromGotham Are you trying to imply that iphone '4's should be 5th gen?

FromGotham well from your statement since 5th gen phone can be named 4s i dont see why 6th gen phone can't be name 5 :)

@ToGotham @ToGotham @FromGotham Original iPhone: 1st gen iPhone 3G: 2nd gen (introduction of 3G) iPhone 3GS: 3rd gen (faster iPhone, hence the "S" for speed) iPhone 4: 4th gen iPhone 4S: 5th gen (s representing Siri as stated by Tim Cook at the AllThingsD interview) All-New iPhone: 6th gen

@ToGotham that is very true, however, I think they will go the same route as the new iPad and just call it the iPhone and introduce it as the "all-new" version.

FromGotham The problem is the author writes that this upcoming release is the fifth generation iphone when its actually the sixth.  Whether it would be called iphone 5 or iPhone 3000 or iphone2012, that doesnt change the fact that its the sixth generation/version
