Some new court documents filed before the July 30th trial between Apple and Samsung had some interesting news to share; according to retailers, such as Best Buy, a portion of buyers were returning Samsung’s tablets because they were under the belief that they were purchasing an iPad. To add on to that, documents revealed that several Samsung employees themselves discussed the similarities between the Galaxy lineup and Apple’s iPhone and iPad. Ina Fried, from AllThingsD put it this way:
Samsung was forced to release a bunch of documents it had been keeping under seal that show the likeness between its products and Apple’s. Examples outlined in the documents include comments from Samsung workers discussing similarities with Apple’s products, and reports Samsung got from retailer Best Buy that Samsung tablets were being returned because customers thought they were getting iPads.
Samsung is attempting to keep this information from being used at trial, which begins July 30th. The same court documents also contain 3D CAD drawings of the early iPhone and iPad prototypes. Samsung is going to attempt to use early mockups of devices they claim Apple “copied” off of. But, recently, it has come out that even big names like Google warned Samsung to not copy the iPhone too much.
What do you think? Is Samsung being hypocritical by using early mockups but trying to block these reported details? What do you think this news means for Samsung? Let us know in the comments.
