Guy’s iPhone explodes in pocket, caught on video

Every now and then a video will get put up of something crazy happening with an iOS device. The latest one comes from Finnish site Kauppalehti. Apparently 17-year-old Henri Helminen’s iPhone exploded into a cloud of smoke in his pocket. Now this wouldn’t be the first time an iPhone has spontaneously combusted. A simliar thing happened on an Australian flight last year.

Now I’m not sure how real the video is. There are couple things that throw up red flags regarding its authenticity. First, it seems extremely coincidental that as soon as he steps out of the van, his iPhone then combusts in perfect view of the camera. Second, you can hear a slight sound on the camera before the second guy walks out, almost as if he was making sure it was on tape before heading out. Now all this is speculation so you can decide for yourself.

 pdahlke940  I'm not sure about if it's real or fake but there is one thing  I'm very sure that Fins don't seem so surprised when surprising things happen :)  I've been working for a Finnish company since 2010 and I know how they react.

I definitely believe this is fake. You can tell something was up from the moment he was sitting in the van and the way he got out of the van like he was trying to be careful and then when he reaches into his pocket you can see him reaching deep like he was going for something or activating his smoke can. He is also walking really slow like he is waiting for something to happen and lastly is the camera. It is shaking a lot and I have seen many cameras outside and wind is not gonna make it shake like that, i think someone was holding a camera of some sort or something, also most industrial type places like that do not incorporate sound on outside cameras. Thats just my 2 cents!

His reaction looked real. If they look into the phone, they'll be able to tell if its real or fake. I'm sure people can't make an iPhone blowup without a professional knowing it was set up. Millions of iPhones out there, things are gonna happen now an then. I'm sure alot more iPhones blow up, but they aren't caught on video, therefore you don't hear about it.

A person in Houston where I live had their phone "combust" but when they digger further into it they found that she had dropped her phone in a pool a year earlier and she let the phone dried out and not have a proper repair so the moisture inside the phone cause it to short out the mother board I think.

the sound your talking about is a person recording this off of a computer screen, meaning that it could be recorded after the event happened, could be real, could be fake, who cares

You can tell it was planned. He looked suspicious and then he didn't seem to surprised/afraid when it happened.
