Want 3D Maps on iOS 6, but have an older device? Here’s how to get it

With iOS 6 comes a ton of new features. One of the major ones is the rewritten maps application from Apple, using their own maps now instead of Google Maps. WIth this came a new 3D view that unfortunately was limited to the A5 devices. But what if you want them on your older device? iDownloadBlog (who does fantastic with these tutorials) put together a list of instructions on how to do just that. Below, they have instructions on how to jailbreak, install Cydia, and then instructions on how to get a tweak to activate 3D Maps on your older device. Enjoy:

Step 1: Jailbreak your iOS 6 installation using the tethered jailbreak.

Step 2: Install Cydia.

Step 3: Install iFile from Cydia, and then use this link to install the 3D Enabler package. Afterwards, kill the Maps app, and reopen it, and the 3D Maps icon should now be permanently visible.

Readers and viewers have also informed me that you can use Ryan Petrich’s iOS 6 beta repo (http://rpetri.ch/ios6/) to install Unlock iOS 6 Maps — a package that will accomplish the same thing. Whatever route you decide to take, having 3D maps on your older device is only a few steps away.

This tweak is said to work with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and the iPod touch 4th Gen.

What do you think? Are you going to install it? Taken the plunge with iOS 6 yet? Let us know in the comments.

Hey I think we don't have to worry about google map app comming as a new app in app store so if you don't like native map app just download google map.

Dheeraj Kumar Verma The Google Maps app that's on the iPhone right now isn't made by google. It's made by Apple.I'm aware that Google will make a new app available in the App Store and Apple will probably allow it (though Apple has done crazy stuff in the past).

I'm worried about the quality of the app that's being made by Google, their IOS email app is slow and less responsive. It doesn't work right and doesn't push notifications to the lock screen. (though that's probably an Apple limitation).

Still, I like the old app just the way it is, if I don't get turn by turn and flyover just let me keep the old app.

@RaduTanasescu Ya I truly agree with you. But still I believe google must do some good stuff to keep its some data flow in ios Eco system. As google make money on by it's huge data on consumer activity. And if he loose here then he may be loose good tracking in a iOS system

I fear the new maps app. Google has just finally added traffic information for Romania. It's been a long time coming feature. And Apple is simply going to take it away from me with their maps app which will be crap in my country.

Not to mention I have an iPhone 4.
