Review:

Some apps are too good to be true. Fortunately, that’s not the case with Camera Plus Pro. The fairly inexpensive app makes taking, editing, and sharing photos easier than ever.

Camera Pro Plus is a one-stop shop for photographers, and the best part is that you don’t have to be a pro to use it. The app is easy to navigate, which allows you to quickly shoot, edit, and manage your images.

Just like with Apple’s standard Camera app, you have the option of snapping a photo or filming a video. Let’s take a look at photos first. By default, the app opens up in camera mode. You can point and shoot right away, or you can dive into some of the great features it has to offer.

You can pull up a menu by tapping the arrow icon in the lower left corner. Here you can apply settings, such as a timer, grid lines, geo tags, anti-shake — which helps you stabilize to avoid blurry shots — and burst mode, which can take up to 40 shots in a row — the latter two options can be customized to suit your preference. If at any time you change your mind about a setting, just tap it again (blue means it’s activated, gray means it isn’t).

Tags, not to be confused with the geo tags that note your location, can help you better manage your images later on. You can choose from one of the pre-loaded options, or you can add your own.

Just to the left of the camera button are the filters. The really cool thing about Camera Plus Pro is that you can view live photo filters, meaning that you can see how it will look before you snap the picture. There are 19 filters, which fall into different categories (including Nostalgia, Special, Colorize, Artistic, and Distortion). You can tap on each filter, or you can use a two-finger swipe to browse through the options. These can also be added later on in case you can’t choose right away.

To the right of the camera button is the video option. Tap it to switch from photos to videos. One thing to note is that under settings, you can switch between using Camera Plus Pro’s camera, or the default camera. By choosing the latter, you’ll have better video quality, but you won’t have access to the live video filters. Choose wisely.

The last button on the right is where you go to view your photo library. I like the added organizational options along the top. Here you can work with your photos as a set and can send them in bulk to your computer through Wi-Fi or FTP, or you can copy them to your photo library.

If you’d prefer to work with individual images, just tap the photo and the full size image will appear. Tapping the arrow icon will open another menu with options to share (with Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, and YouTube), sync, add geo tags, mark as private, or add a copyright. I did run into some trouble when I tried tweeting an image — the photo never uploaded — but the developers are aware and are working on a fix for the next update.

Finally, you can tap the edit button in the top right corner of the photo, where you’ll be able to crop, rotate, adjust brightness and saturation levels, and add filters and borders. The app even lets you apply flash effects after the image has been taken — goodbye red eye! I was serious when I said this app can do everything.

I ran into a couple instances where the app crashed during testing, but I wasn’t able to recreate any of the scenarios that led up to the crash. Otherwise, it was a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Whether you’re just getting started or an iPhone photo-snapping pro, you’re going to love Camera Plus Pro..
