Apple announces new Maps for iOS 6
Apple has finally announced their highly anticipated Maps application, and it offers a lot of awesome new features. Here’s a quick run down of all of them.
1. Turn-by-turn- Android fans will no longer be able to gloat about getting free turn-by-turn navigation with their phones. Apple has finally integrated a free solution, right into the Maps application. And it looks great
2. Flyover - Apple’s new Maps application was built in-house, and no longer uses Google’s software. However, thanks to Apple’s purchase of Poly9, they’ve brought their own “photo-realistic and interactive 3D views of major metro areas” straight to iOS
3. Siri Integration - Siri gained a lot of new powers today, but one of the major ones was being able to give you directions and answer the kids’ never ending question of “Are we there yet?”
4. Real-Time Traffic - through the use of over 300 million iOS devices, Apple is going to crowd source traffic info, from incident reports, all the way to calculating how long it will take you to reach your destination. Of course, this is all done anonymously.
Apple’s new iOS 6 is already looking to be a great release, with Apple’s new Maps being one of the biggest things to talk about.
Here’s a little rumor review: 3D – Confirmed, switching from Google Maps – confirmed; we also got turn-by-turn and real-time traffic to boot!
