iOS 5.1 semi untethered jailbreak released (not for A5 devices)
Those of you jailbreaking using the redsn0w tool will be glad to know it has been updated with a solution for A4 powered devices running iOS 5.1. The updated operating system was released by Apple yesterday, and among other improvements includes a fix for the battery life issue, a permanent camera icon in the lock screen and Sushi loving Siri (now speaks Japanese).
Unfortunately, this new hack is only available as a semi-untethered jailbreak, and only for devices with the single core A4 chip: iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th gen and original iPad. Anyone with any other device will not be able to hack, yet. The major downside is that with a semi-untethered jailbreak, you can only access very basic functions if your device reboots. You still need to plug it to your computer and reload it if you want to have it back as you left it.
If you’re still keen, the instructions on how to jailbreak using the latest update to redsn0w can be found here: Redmond Pie
