Incipio Smart Feather for iPad (3rd gen)/iPad 2: First Looks and Gallery

Incipio’s offGRID and Silicrylic for iPhone 4S really excited me earlier in the month, so naturally I was excited when I received the latest bunch of iPad cases from the same company. First to be ripped open carefully unsealed with a knife was the Smart Feather. As you can probably tell from its name, the case is designed to fit your iPad with your Smart Cover attached, it’s also incredibly thin and light.

If you’re like me, you’ll love the Smart Cover. It’s clever, practical and protects my device’s display. My only anxiety has been that my iPad’s back is still fully exposed, and so many cases don’t allow for Apple’s cover to be applied. The Smart Feather gives me the best of both worlds without compromise. My iPad’s back is protected from everyday bangs and scrapes, and I still have the cool Smart Cover.

The plastic back clips on to your iPad, and has a ridge running up the left hand side to protect the Smart Cover’s spine. This clever and practical design means that it almost convinces you that it’s inseparable from Apple’s magnetic flap. It’s as if it’s one case, not two. Thanks to it being very slim and light, it adds no bulk to your tablet and has a nice soft-touch texture.

The Smart Feather has cutouts in all the right places. Volume connector, lock switch and all ports are all easily accessible. The big highlight for me is its thin profile. You can barely tell the case is there. Looking at it from the front it’s practically invisible, and it feels like it belongs. First impressions: fantastic case from Incipio. It’s available now from Incipio’s online store and costs $34.99.
