DataMan for iPad gives 3G data usage alerts
If you have a 3G iPad or iPad 2 you may, once in a while, go over your data allowance. We know, every once in a while you may get caught in an area with no WiFi and you really want to watch that Justin Bieber music video on YouTube, or download the latest Angry Birds update. Do this often enough, and you could get charged by your carrier for going over you allowance.
Fortunately, there is an app for that. DataMan for iPad can be set up to give you warnings throughout the month when you hit key cellular data usage figures. The app is customizable. This means you can input which day of the month your billing cycle begins, and you can change the alert limits. For instance, you could have the first alert set to go off when you hit 50% of your download limit. Then 2nd, 3rd and fourth can be set to 65%, 80% and 100%. This way you get plenty of warning about your usage, and you can shut off your connection before you go over.
Unlike your carrier’s online system, this app gives up-to-date usage info. It refreshes every ten minutes to ensure that you have an accurate reading of your internet use. You can also:
- Geotag your data activities and view them on a map. You can zoom in on the map to see the time and usage for certain places. Very useful when you travel and roam.
- 4 levels of usage thresholds and 3 data allowances (daily, weekly and monthly) for you to customize to suit your data plan.
- Works all over the world with all carriers. No login is required to your carrier’s website.
- Always up-to-date usage statistics. No need to wait hours or days for your carrier to refresh and give you the latest statistics.
- Easy setup. Set your bill start date and data allowance, and you’re done. DataMan is now monitoring your usage in the background.
The app is available for $3.99, link to app, and is compatible with iPads running iOS 4.0 or later.
