NC Data Center confirmed, cloud-based iTunes on the way?

Today, Apple had a shareholder meeting held at its Cupertino campus. Tim Cook, COO of Apple, headed the meeting, during which Apple described its plans for advancing in this technological world.

Mr. Cook also talked about the newest addition to Apple — a new data center located in North Carolina. Said to be the largest of its kind, the data center was speculated to be used for the new “cloud-based” iTunes. This rumor has been around for awhile, however today Cook confirmed that the new data center will go live in March and will be used for iTunes.

The funny part about it is this: Apple’s servers in Palo Alto are still not at full capacity. There’s no point for them to open up another data center. Unless some great new feature was coming to iTunes. **cough, iTunes in the cloud, cough.**

Rumors have also been saying Apple will be building an identical “twin” data-center right next to the new one. However, these are still unconfirmed. Maybe we’ll be seeing a hint of what this data-center can do one week from today at that special iPad event. If it is cloud based iTunes, I’ll be as giddy as a little school girl. Seriously, I would.

This data-center will also help out with with the supposed revamp of MobileMe. Maybe then it’ll actually be worth purchasing.
