Clearwire’s iSpot means 4G for iDevices
Today is a tremendous occasion for all Apple mobile device users. Clearwire has just introduced iSpot, the nations first dedicated 4G hotspot device for Apple mobile devices. The new CLEAR iSpot Personal Hotspot brings a truly unlimited mobile broadband to Apple’s mobile product line. You can now surf the web with high 4G speeds, but low monthly price. This unlimited 4G mobile broadband option is for the iPad, iPod touch, and the iPhone.
The iSpot brings the speed and mobility of mobile broadband, without the high price of capped broadband available from your standard mobile carrier. No longer do customers have to sort through pricey plans trying to find the one that won’t empty their pockets. “Instead, with CLEAR, customers can run all of their Apple mobile devices on true broadband speeds for a single, simple monthly fee,” said Thomas Enraght-Moony, Senior VP of marketing at Clearwire.
iSpot is the first of its kind for CLEAR; it is their first personal mobile hotspot made solely for Apple products, including the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The iSpot can share the 4G goodness with up to eight WiFi-enabled iDevices. Not only is it functional, but it also has an ergonomic design and beautiful white finish to complement the iconic image of Apple products. It would look great paired up with your white iPhone 4. With CLEAR’s super fast mobile internet service, users can experience a rich broadband connection with average speeds of 3 to 6 Mbps with bursts over 10 Mbps! iPad users can stream Netflix movies and television shows from home, at work, or even on the go. ( I’m guessing that it means on a bus or train, so please don’t catch up on your shows while driving). iPod touch users can rock out to Pandora Radio anytime and anywhere.

iSpot is available nationwide from CLEAR’s website today and will be available from CLEAR retail stores and authorized resellers beginning August 10th. You can pick up the device for an easy $99.99 and enjoy the 4G connectivity for 25 dollars a month without a required term contract.
This seems to be the missing component to an unlimited everything plan for a whole lot less. You can’t find a deal like this on any of the big carriers. Even on Virgin Mobile, 25 dollars only gets you unlimited text and a few minutes.
Here’s an example of a really attractive scenario using an iPod touch: First, you make sure you’re using a microphone headphone with the device. Then pair the iPod touch with a Google Voice account, which is a completely free call-routing service. (It lets you text any mobile number or call any phone number from your web browser.) However, to make GV’s calling feature work, you’ll need a third-party VoIP program such as iCall, which actually lets you receive and make calls via a data connection. GV connects to iCall, and boom: You’ve got phone calls with your iPod touch, plus text messages (via the GV web app/Safari browser). So that covers text and voice. Since iPod comes with a built-in browser, web surfing’s a no-brainer. There you have it, unlimited text, web, and voice — all for only 25 dollars a month, and all over 4G. Talk about a bargain!
This sounds pretty great, right? Oh, but there’s a catch: CLEAR isn’t available in that many places yet. So if you are in one of the spots on the map below, consider yourself lucky.
