iPhone 4 bursts into flames
An AT&T source close to Boy Genius Report sent in some pictures of an iPhone — and frankly, I have never seen anything like them before.
They are the pictures of a charred iPhone 4 and melted USB cable. Apparently, the iPhone 4 caught fire when the owner had it plugged in via the standard Apple USB cable. The customer brought it in to get some help, but obviously this thing is beyond repair. The customer also wanted to exchange the burnt iPhone 4 for a less toasted one — who could blame him — but the store in question was out of stock.
An Apple Store did confirm to BGR’s AT&T tipster that this did appear to be a defective USB port and not some sort of user error. I’m not sure about this; maybe she was holding it wrong. Sorry, bad joke. Seriously, this is no joking matter. The source went on to say that the phone bezel was extremely hot, and it slightly burned the customer’s hand. Also the USB port in the phone was slightly melted and the cord was badly melted as you can see in the photo below.
