iParenting with an iPhone 4

So with Steve Job’s WWDC Keynote announcing the iPhone 4, there is much to ponder and to be excited about. As I noodle through some of the iPhone 4 capabilities, I am wondering what that really means for our iParenting community. Let’s take a look at some of the features:

FaceTime: Nice! iPhone-savvy grandmas everywhere are misty-eyed at the thought of this one, to be sure. For my part, I can’t wait to show — instead of just tell — my husband why he needs to come home and help me now as the kids are dismantling the DVR!

Gyroscope: I can envision the games of the future with this one… kind of like Wii, VR games, and simulators all in one. Is this the beginning of a real holodeck? Okay, so I’m over-excited and should tone down the hyperbole, but the tech does seem to have its promise. Maybe strap it to the little one while they practice their gymnastics or dance and get info about performance? Okay, maybe not…

32 GB version?: Oh yeah! room for my apps, the kids apps, and ALL of our songs! Everybody’s happy. When is more space NOT a good thing?

Retina Display, with 326 ppi: Wow! I don’t know if my kids will care about it, but for Mom or Dad, seeing pictures of their beautiful faces in better resolution is always a good thing.

5x digital zoom with LED flash: With so many photogenic moments, what’s not to love about this? Maybe I could finally leave my other camera at home on outings when I am at risk for missing potentially priceless photo moments.

So overall, lots of good here for all iPhone users, and iParents are clearly no exception. I’m still waiting, hoping that more details will emerge about carriers later this summer, but that’s another post!
