Rumor: Verizon iPhone by Holiday Season?
The whole “will they, won’t they?” saga has been dealt another trump card. According to reports by The Street, Apple has ordered production of it’s CDMA version to be in full swing by as early as November. Now, sure, we’re all expecting that Jobs will unveil a fantastic and “revolutionary” device in a week’s time at the WWDC, but will he also announce plans for a Verizon friendly version? The one thing that really gets me is that a while back it was revealed that Cupertino has an exclusivity deal with AT&T until 2012. Does this mean Verizon is getting kinda itchy, and fed up that the competition is selling millions while it’s stuck in the dark with only a few snazzy Android’s to keep it’s cash flowing?
I realize I’m throwing many more questions up in the air than supplying a definitive answer. I guess that’s because I’m really not sure if this rumor is just that, or is, in fact, the truth. Rodman Renshaw analyst, Ashok Kumar, states that Apple has ordered it’s manufacturers of the current iPhone to increase it’s productivity by up to as much as 4 million iPhones a month by September, a 25% increase on the current level. It’s within the same report, he states that Cupertino has ordered full scale manufacture of a CDMA iPhone.
So if this is true, I guess a lot of you guys on Verizon could already know what they’ll be writing to Santa requesting, if not, it could be yet another frustrating year for fanboys everywhere who can’t get AT&T reception.
