Will there be an iPhone announcement tomorrow?
With only one more day to go until the January 27th Apple event, it looks like people still can’t get enough of the rumors.
That there will be a Tablet announcement — well, that’s pretty much what people are expecting. But there are also several stories circulating about how an iPhone announcement could be on the menu as well.
According to Bloomberg, T-mobile may be getting the iPhone as soon as this summer. And its pundits are expecting Apple to make some announcements about it tomorrow. What about Big Red or Sprint? They’ll follow in the fall, with Clearwire Corp. bringing up the rear in 2011. AT&T’s death grip on the iPhone is expected to be broken this year, when the carrier’s exclusivity ends. All indications point to Apple not wanting to enter into another agreement and shopping around for new partners.
The iPhone works on AT&T and T-mobile, which are GSM networks. (The two use different frequencies, but the device is capable of working on both networks.) Because of that, current models couldn’t be taken and just plopped onto Verizon or Sprint, which use CDMA networks (not GSM). But some experts think Apple is more than capable of putting a dual chip in the next version of the iPhone that is capable of working on both kinds of networks.
There’s no firm confirmation of this yet. But with less than 24 hours to go, we’ll all know one way or another whether there’s any truth to this.
Anyone else on the edge of your seat?
(Thanks, Alex!)
