In an attempt to be the leading source for exclusive content, Apple Music has been working with artists directly. Because of this, it’s really no longer a surprise to hear about a new partnership the company makes with a musical talent.

So when Apple Music announced its agreement with Cash Money Records, it came as a big shock to those who have been keeping a close eye on the music label. This means that Apple Music has moved on from signing exclusive deals with artists individually and has decided to work with a big label.

Taking to his Instagram account to announce the news, Cash Money co-founder and record artist Birdman posted a photo with a caption: “It’s official… Cash Money makes a power move with Apple Music.”

The power move referred to by the artist likely means that Apple Music now has access to exclusive content from the artists under the label, which include Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and Young Money. Drake is another artist under the label who already signed a $19 million deal with Apple Music just a year ago.

After signing the contract with Drake, Apple Music was able to make the most from a two-week exclusive deal with the artist’s album, Views; which was released in April and shortly became a record breaker. The deal also included funding for Drake’s One Dance video, which is still officially unavailable on YouTube.

With the deal between Cash Money and Apple, it is likely that artists under the label can get free promotion on both Apple Music and iTunes. This is the same deal that was seen during Taylor Swift’s tour documentary.

As of this writing, nothing has been made official yet. But if there’s anything that can be expected from this partnership, it would be the fact that this spells bad news for Apple Music’s competition; particularly Spotify.
