New Leak Brings Back Smart Connector On IPhone 7 Plus, No Mute Switch
With the first real look at what may potentially be the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 from yesterday, this morning a new leak is showing the larger 5.5-inch ‘iPhone 7 Plus’ that has apparently appeared on Weibo.
Some reports note that we’ll have two separate SKU’s for the 5.5-inch model, a ‘Plus’ and a ‘Pro’ model. However, this specific leak shows an iPhone that’s very similar to the iPhone 6s Plus with the addition of a Smart Connector on the back and the lack of a mute switch on the side.
There have been a few rumors surrounding a capacitive home button that sits flush with the rest of the body. While this doesn’t necessarily portray this, it does look like the home button has been tweaked.
The most interesting thing from this leak is the lack of a mute switch. The iPhone has been known (and sometimes praised) for having a physical switch to mute the device.
This is the first leak to note that the iPhone may not come with a physical mute switch. With that being said, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt.
However, outside of the iPhone family, Apple has been quietly killing the mute switch on its other iOS devices. Starting wit the iPad Air 2, none of the iPads feature a physical mute switch. They’ve been replaced with software toggles in the iOS Control Center.
The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is expected to be announced in early September. While pricing may be the same, customers should expect more storage with a 32GB base option.
