Apple Updates Mother’s Day Ad To Remove Same-Sex References In France And Other Countries

Apple has today modified its Mother’s Day ad to remove a same-sex couple that is available in the U.S. version of the ad (via BuzzFeed News). The couple is not seen in the German, Italian, Turkish, Japanese, or French versions of the ad. Though, they’re seen in the Mexican, Australian, and Canadian versions (including the U.S., obviously).

In the countries in which Apple removed the couple from the ad, it’s been replaced by an image of one of the mothers and their baby. The lesbian couple is Melanie and Vanessa Roy, both of whom are proud of their relationship and are very active on Instagram showing pictures of their family.

However, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Apple modify its ads for different countries. For example, the Apple Watch “Date” ad featured tattoo in the American and French versions. But were removed in the Japanese version. Apple has a tendency of modifying ads to better fit the culture in which they are aired.
