Apple will cut sales tax charges for purchases made in-store and online during the tax-free holiday, which in most states is August 1 to August 3.
Tax-free purchases are also eligible to take advantage of Apple’s “Back to School” promotion, which gives consumers the addition of an Apple Store gift card when they purchase a Mac, an iPhone, or an iPad. The tax-free holiday will take place in the following states:
- Alabama
- Florida
- Georgia
- Louisiana
- Massachusetts
- Missouri
- New Mexico
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
However, there are some limitations and restrictions when it comes to making purchases during the tax-free holiday. Eligible purchases for most states include: Macs, iPads, and most accessories.
Those accessories include, but are not limited to: mice and keyboards when purchased alongside a computer. iPhones, educational software, and AppleCare may be included as well, but consumers should check their state laws to make sure it is allowed by their state of legal residence.
Note: Most states place a cap on the amount of each purchase that is eligible to be tax-free. The limit is set at $750 in Alabama and Florida, $1,000 in Georgia and New Mexico, $1,500 in Tennessee, $2,500 in Massachusetts, and $3,500 in Missouri. There is not a cap set in South Carolina.
The tax-free holiday runs from August 1 to August 3 in every state but Georgia (ends on August 2) and Massachusetts (not set yet).
