If you’re like me, you tend to forget where you put your phone. Did it fall between couch cushions or did it get thrown in the dirty laundry? You know it’s somewhere in the house, and now with Marco Polo, you can easily find your misplaced phone.
Marco Polo is a fairly inexpensive app (US $0.99) that allows you to find your iPhone in a jiffy. When running the app, it stays on in the background and listens for the phrase “Marco.” It then responds by saying, “Polo.” This is a pretty simple, but effective solution.
Marco Polo also offers some customization settings. For example, instead of saying “Marco,” you can use another word to trigger a response. However, the phone will always respond by saying “Polo.” The response voices can also be customized, as well.
The app doesn’t require an Internet connection to work, which is always nice. You can even use the loudest volume your phone is capable of when responding, even if your iPhone volume is set to its lowest setting.
When testing this app out around the house, I found that if you are in the same room with your phone or a few rooms over, it will pick up the frequency of your voice fairly well. However, if you are on the complete opposite side of the house, it may not be able to pick up your voice as well.
As a result, you have to go around the house yelling “Marco” a few times before it actually responds. Which is actually kinda fun. I would rather go around the house yelling “Marco” a few times than spending hours hunting in all the places it could be.
Marco Polo is an alternative to Find My iPhone, which gives you the general location of your phone, but doesn’t really tell you exactly where your phone is. You can use Find My iPhone to get the general location of your phone; you know, just to make sure your phone is actually in the location you think it is. You could then use Marco Polo to pinpoint exactly where your phone is, whether it be at your house, at the park, or even at the grocery store.
Marco Polo requires iOS 7 or later and it is optimized for the iPhone 5. You can download Marco Polo from the App Store for $0.99 in the US.
