Sony has released a brand new “lens-style” camera, which looks set to be one of the most innovative photography products to date.
The Sony DSC-QX10 (available in Black and White) is a zoom lens and sensor combination which can be clipped onto any smartphone, and used in conjunction with the phone’s software. It features a 10x optical zoom for fantastic close up shots and minute detail.
It also features NFC and Wi-Fi, which allows one touch linking of smartphone and accessory, allowing you to record video and take photos from your iPhone with the quality of a dedicated point and shoot camera.
The accessory works alongside most photo-editing apps, and social networking apps including Facebook and Instagram. The Qx10 has a dedicated app, “PlayMemories”, which allows you to view all of your shots on your device.
PlayMemories can also be used to access the QX10′s features. Images taken using the QX10 are saved to both your smartphones memory and the camera memory, allowing you to conveniently switch devices, as well as providing a handy backup feature.
The most innovative feature is the QX10′s ability to work uncoupled from a smartphone. The Qx10 can be operated independently, for selfies, hard-to-reach shots, or mounted on a tripod for versatile outdoor shooting, all whilst using your smartphone as a viewinder.
The QX10 also recognises low-light, back-lit and macro situations, auto-adjusting as it goes. It’s sensor is an 18MP 1/2.3 Exmor R CMOS, which produces low noise images, even in low light, “far surpassing the quality of images shot on conventional smartphones”.
Featuring a great sensor, awesome optical zoom and a whole host of incredible features, the QX10 is an absolutely awesome bit of kit. Due for release on September 27, the QX10 is available to pre-order from Amazon now in both black and white.
It’s noted that expected high demand will most likely make it impossible to fulfill all orders with the first allocation, so if you’re interested then you might not want to hang around!
