Earlier today T-Mobile UK rather unwisely tweeted out that BBM for iOS and Android would be landing in their respective app stores towards the end of this month. Specifically: June 27th. Obviously, with T-Mobile being such a high profile source, it made major news but despite many trying, no one could get any official word from BlackBerry. 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman got no response at all.
Later on, T-Mobile removed the tweet. It’s gone.
To add to the uncertainty, Business Insider moved swiftly to debunk the rumors stating that “BBM is not coming… on June 27″.
“According to a source with knowledge of BlackBerry’s plans, the June 27 launch date for BBM on Android and iPhone is not correct. In fact, our source called all those stories you may have read “bogus.””
And just in case you haven’t made your mind up one way or the other about which report to believe, GSMArena did publish a story two days ago claiming the same date of release as T-Mobile. That particular story was based on a tweet from a BlackBerry account that seemingly doesn’t exist any more.
My thoughts: whoever was controlling T-Mobile’s Twitter account today must have read the GSMArena post and taken it as fact, and wanted to share the exciting news with the carrier’s followers. He/she was subsequently advised by a senior to take down the tweet as it was not 100% correct.
So, who knows when it’s coming. All we know is that it is on its way. In the mean time, you can sign up to be among the first to hear when it arrives here.
