Tons of lucky people unwrapped shiny new iOS devices on Christmas morning, but new iOS customers weren’t the only ones having a good Christmas. The guys over at Apple had stuff to rejoice about as well, seeing as App Store downloads increased 87% and revenue jumped another 70%.

This data comes from an analytics firm called Distimo, which also claims that Apple’s iPad and iPad mini were the most popular iPresents this year. Apparently if you focus the data just to iPads, downloads and revenues rose by 140 percent and 83 percent respectively.

As far as which applications were the most popular, Google’s Maps and YouTube applications ranked very high, as did Apple’s iWorks suite, OfficeMax’s ElfYourSelf, and Skype for iPad. This is all the information currently available, but be sure that during Apple’s January earnings call, we’ll hear much more about Apple’s holiday success.

Personally, I’m pretty surprised that neither Facebook nor Twitter were mentioned by Distimo. It’s also a bit strange that no games made the most-downloaded list, but we do know that Temple Run had a massive jump in downloads Christmas day.
