On Monday, RBC Capital Markets analyst Amit Daryanani told investors his expectations for iPad sales in the holiday season. Amit predicts that Apple will sell 21.6 million of the devices in the December quarter, but this figure excludes the iPad mini units that would be sold in the same time, should one be released.

Daryanani has calculated that Apple could also sell 8 million iPad minis, meaning a grand total of 29.6 million iPad sales over the holiday season.

Whether or not the 7-inch iPad will ever be released is so far unknown, but that doesn’t stop the rumors flooding in. The latest are saying that the device is currently under production, and according to The Wall Street Journal, Apple has already ordered 10 million units to be ready for the holiday season.

If rumors are to be believed, Apple will release its invitations to the iPad mini event on Wednesday (October 10), so it may not be long before we see the smaller device become a reality.
