Remember late last week when we said the Apple TV 3 may never see a jailbreak? Well, I guess you can never say never. According to the folks over at 9to5Mac, a “handful of people” are currently working in a jailbreak for the ATV3. For those of you who were patiently waiting for one, but were given the news last week that it may never see the light of say, this is some fantastic news. To add to the that, FireCore chimed in with this comment:

There is a group of very bright and talented individuals working on a lead that could result in a usable jailbreak for the 3rd gen Apple TV. While there is no telling how long this process could take, we remain optimistic that a jailbreak for this device will be available in the future. For the record, no one at FireCore is involved in the jailbreak discovery process.

FireCore also went on to say that their software for jailbroken Apple TV’s (including Seas0nPass, aTV Flash, and MiRow) will be updated for the ATV3 when the jailbreak becomes available. aTV Flash is the biggest of those, adding support for MKV, AVI, and MP4 video along with a full web browser, Last.fm, RSS feeds, cloud backups, subtitles, and more.

There are two versions: a $29.95 “black” and a $39.95 “silver” edition. If you just can’t wait though, you may consider selling it and buying an ATV2 before the price gets too much higher. Or vise versa, if you have an ATV2 and don’t care about jailbreaking, selling may be a good idea as they are going for near $230 on Amazon.

What do you think? Glad to see one is in the works? Already sold yours and bought the 2nd gen? Sold your 2nd gen? Let us know in the comments.
