While Apple’s information page regarding AppleCare+ hasn’t been updated yet, the company now makes it possible to purchase AppleCare+ extended coverage for the iPhone one year after purchase, versus the previous 60 day window.
At this moment, the extension is only available for the iPhone as iPads, Apple Watch, and iPods are still showing 60 days. It’s also been confirmed by Apple employees that this change only applies to U.S. customers.
When purchased in-store, Apple will do a full inspection of the device before providing AppleCare+. Apple can also sell the service over the phone with remote diagnostics.
AppleCare+ for iPhone iPhone 6s/6s Plus and iPhone 7/7 Plus is $129. It’s notably less at $99 for the iPhone SE.
