Latest MacOS 10.12.4 Beta Points To The Next MacBook Pro Update With Kaby Lake

Kuo New 15-Inch MacBook Pro With Kaby Lake And 32GB Of RAM Coming Later This Year

The latest MacBook Pro upgrade was done four months ago, however, code within the latest macOS 10.12.4 beta hints at possible upgrade to the line coming soon.

Apple blog Pike’s Universum has discovered (via MacRumors) three motherboard identifiers that don’t correspond to any current MacBook Pro model, but also have the same power management data as the current 13 and 15-inch MacBook Pros. The plist file does not exist in prior versions of macOS.

An update to the MacBook Pro will more than likely be sporting Intel’s Kaby Lake processors, which is the natural successor to the Skylake processor in the Late 2016 MacBook Pros. This would fall in line with another report several weeks back suggesting that the 2017 refresh will come with minor spec bumps.

Mac-B4831CEBD52A0C4C would likely be for two new 13-inch MacBook Pro models with function keys. The models would likely have Kaby Lake processors with a maximum Turbo Boost of 3400 MHz and 4000 MHz respectively.

Mac-CAD6701F7CEA0921 would likely be for three new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar models. These notebooks would likely have Kaby Lake processors with a maximum Turbo Boost of 3500/3700 MHz and 4000 MHz respectively.

Mac-551B86E5744E2388 would likely be for three new 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar models. These notebooks would likely have Kaby Lake processors with a maximum Turbo Boost of 3800/3900 MHz and 4100 MHz respectively.

The report says that according to performance numbers, it’s not possible that these boards will be used for any desktop Macs including the iMac and Mac Pro. There is also no details regarding the GPU chipset yet.

Cross-referencing Intel’s current Kaby Lake processor lineup, the blog was able to determine that these processor will indeed be used in the next MacBook Pro.

It’s highly unlikely that Apple would release the new machines while macOS 10.12.4 is still in beta. The release is expected to drop sometime in late-February or March. However, with the Late 2016 MacBook Pro being fairly new, it’s more likely that Apple will wait until WWDC 2017 in June to release new MacBook Pros, if not later.
