Earlier, carmaker Jaguar announced that they have a series of vehicles that will be supportive of an in-car cashless payment app to pay for fuel. According to the announcement, drivers of these vehicles may turn to the use of Apple Pay when they refuel at participating Shell stations. Through this cashless payment option, drivers no longer need to use a traditional card to pay when they refuel their vehicles. As of now, the announced vehicles that are compatible with the app include the Jaguar F-PACE performance SUV, F-TYPE, XF, XE sports saloon model ranges. The list also includes the latest models from Land Rover.
The app can be accessed through the vehicle’s InControl infotainment system. The payment can then be completed through a connected iPhone device wherein Apple Pay payments are authorized through Touch ID. Apart from allowing the driver to make a payment, the app also enables the driver to get directions to a nearby Shell station. Once they arrive in the gas station, they simply need to type in which pump station they are in and input the amount of fuel they need. The final step is to complete the payment either through Apple Pay or PayPal. Each transaction will produce an automatically sent email, which the driver can later on use to tally his expenses.
According to the announcement, support for this in-car cashless payment system is currently focused in the United Kingdom. However, Jaguar promises that the app will soon be rolling out in a global scale. The company is also currently working on Android Pay support for fuel payments but is said to release this later in the year.
