Apple Says It Has No Interest In Buying Tidal Music Streaming Service

There have been several rumors in the past that suggest Apple is looking to buy Jay-Z owned music streaming service, Tidal. Nearly three months after speculation began, Apple has commented on the rumors in an interview with BuzzFeed News, denying it has any interest in the company.

Apple Music leader Jimmy Iovine has indirectly denied that it has any interest in Tidal, or any other music streaming service. He says Apple is perfectly fine running independent right now. “We’re really running our own race,” Iovine said. “We’re not looking to acquire any streaming services.”

If Apple were interested in Tidal, the reasoning would probably be because of the strong relationship and exclusive rights with artists. The streaming service is owned by Jay Z, Alicia Keys, J. Cole, Nicki Minaj, Chris Martin, Calvin Harris, and Kanye West.

During its iPhone 7 event, Apple announced that Apple Music now has 17 million paying subscribers. Far more than Tidal’s current 4.2 million.
