IPhone 7 Plus Took 40% Of Overall IPhone 7 Sales, Suggests Apple Will Continue Feature Differentiating The Models

The decision to place the dual-lens camera on the iPhone 7 Plus only may have been due to space constraints, but the iPhone maker is also improving its bottom line by doing so.

Cowen & Co sales estimates cited by the WSJ suggests that the iPhone 7 Plus had a whopping 40% of all iPhone 7 sales. For comparison, the firm says that only 17% of iPhone 6 buyers opted for the larger model.

For Apple, this means higher profit margins as the larger model is more expensive than the 4.7-inch counterpart.

UBS data suggests that Apple sees as much as a 2% increase in revenue, a welcome boost in a time where iPhone sales seem to be peaking.

If accurate, Apple could continue on the trend of differentiating the two models based on hardware features. For example, with the iPhone 6 and 6s, Apple kept optical image stabilization (OIS) to the larger model, until the company finally decided to bring the feature in the iPhone 7. However, Apple introduced the dual-camera system with the iPhone 7 Plus, thus creating more differentiators between the two sizes.
